The car
Built at Thames Ditton in Surrey, on a tubular frame, with an aluminium body beaten by hand to fit. Both ends have independent suspension on a transverse leaf spring, which was unusual for a British sports car of the time, and it is why the car still feels settled on a road that changes with every corner.
Fewer than 800 Aces were built in ten years. They raced at Le Mans, and they were fast enough that the factory had to keep making them faster.
Did you know
Seven years after this car was built, Carroll Shelby put an American V8 into the same chassis and called it a Cobra. The shape you are looking at is the one the Cobra was built on.
