Five days around the second of July
The Palio di Siena is a horse race, run around the city’s main square on the second of July every year. Seventeen districts, each with its own colours, its own church and its own old rivalries. The city has gathered in that square for four hundred years. Hours of ceremony, then ninety seconds of racing that decide the year. We invite you to watch it from the balcony of a private exclusive apartment above the San Martino curve, the sharpest corner of the course, with a former jockey beside you to explain what is happening and why it means so much to the people of Siena.
Around the Palio, five days of driving. 450 kilometres of hills, vineyards and coast, on a route we have drawn for you. Nothing is timed, though a few challenges will keep you on your toes. Every stop is curated for you: the stables where the horses are kept, the workshops of the artisans, and the ground where the jockeys train.
WHAT IS DONE FOR YOU
One hotel, four nights, nothing to move
Your home for the week is Certosa di Maggiano, a Carthusian monastery founded in 1314 and now a five star hotel just beyond the city walls, with a walled garden, a chapel and a pool set among the olive trees. You unpack once, and every drive goes out from there and comes back to it.
The road book is written to be read at a glance, so that your navigator can look at the country rather than at the page. A mechanical crew travels with the field, a hospitality manager is reachable for the whole week, and a photographer and a film crew come with us, so that nobody in your car has to think about it.

- Entry and place: One of fifteen places, for driver and co driver.
- The Palio: The race from a balcony in a private apartment above the San Martino curve, with a former jockey commentating. Every participant in the front row.
- Accommodation: Four nights in Siena, with breakfast, taxes and parking. The same room throughout.
- Dining: Every meal, from the welcome to the closing lunch.
- The driving: 450 kilometres of hill roads and vineyards, one day out to the coast, and a road book written to be read at a glance.
- Cultural visits: Four, all of them chosen around the Palio. The stables where the horses are kept, the workshops of the district artisans, and a yard where jockeys train.

- Car transport: Delivery of your car to Tuscany and its return home.
- Airport transfers: Arrival and departure transfers.
- Car hire: A classic car, should you prefer not to bring your own.
- Storage and valeting: Storage before or after the rally, and valeting.
- Personal expenses: Hotel extras, gratuities, fines, penalties, and flights.

Arrival in Siena
Teams arrive and check in from midday. At three the week is explained, cars are handed over and road books issued. The afternoon is yours, at the pool, in the spa, or walking the grounds.
Aperitivo, then dinner. There is something arranged for that first dinner that is a surprise.

Into the hills
The morning is yours at the pool and the spa. At eleven the cultural tour begins, through the medieval towns, and in the afternoon the road turns onto smaller ones, through villages the main routes miss entirely.
Aperitivo at a hillside vineyard at one, then lunch with the man who makes the wine. A sunset aperitivo, and dinner outside under the Tuscan sky.
The Palio
Out in the morning, and back by midday to refresh. Siena fills from the early afternoon, so the driving is done before it does.
Transfer into the city at, to the exclusive apartment above the San Martino curve. Aperitivo, with a former jockey beside you explaining the race and what is about to happen. The ceremony begins at half past seven. Ninety seconds of racing decide the year.
Aperitivo and lunch before the transfer. Dinner in the heart of the city, while the winning district is still in the streets.
Where the country meets the coast
Out for the longest drive of the week, from the hills down to the sea, with a guided cultural visit in the afternoon.
A midday aperitivo, then lunch looking at the sea. Aperitivo back at the hotel at six, and the last dinner at seven.

A farewell aperitivo at one, then lunch.
